Americans love for horses is fully expressed in the broad category known as the pleasure horse. These horses cover the gamut: the beloved backyard pony; the Quarter Horse or Tennessee Walker, steady and reliable on the weekend trail ride; the elegant Arabian, a pleasure to ride in the paddock or pasture. Because these horses are less active, they often battle obesity and other problems that stem from overfeeding. Yearlings and Two-year Olds – Feed at a rate
Yearlings and Two-year Olds – Feed at a rate of 0.75 to 1.50% of body weight per day or to 8–12 lbs/day for most light horses. Adjust feed intake up or down according to body condition and desired growth rate, and forage quality and availability.
Mares – Barren and early-pregnant mares should consume 8–10 lbs/day when using poor quality forage and intake of Stability 12® decreased when good quality forage is available.
Performance Horses – Feed 0.75-1.50% of body weight per day (8-12 pounds per day for most light horses) depending on work intensity, body condition, and quality of forage available. Adjust feed intake to maintain desirable body condition.
